Kia's electric vehicle lineup is already broad, featuring the Kia EV6 and Kia Niro EV. The new 2024 EV9 will sit as the crown jewel of electric vehicles in the Kia lineup. Significantly larger than the EV6 or Niro EV, its dimensions are comparable to the gas-powered Kia Telluride concerning interior space and exterior proportions. However, the comfort, performance, technology, and capability of the new EV9 underscore it as the pinnacle model in the Kia lineup. The EV9's interior epitomizes modern luxury, centered around an elliptical-shaped dashboard that gives an illusion of floating, complemented by a panoramic display that merges dual 12.3-inch screens with a 5.0-inch HVAC screen. While boasting futuristic hidden-until-lit haptic switches, essential functions like volume and temperature retain traditional physical switches. Amenities vary by trim, with options like a 12-inch head-up display, a Full Display Mirror®, and a 708-watt Meridian® Premium Audio system. The ambiance is accentuated by LED-illuminated Kia logos, mood lighting, and Relaxation Mode front seats with massaging air pockets. The spacious interior focuses on comfort, with ample legroom and headroom across all rows. The seven-seat configuration includes a tilting system for easy third-row access, while a six-seat Captain’s Chair variant provides heated and cooled relaxation. USB-C outlets are conveniently positioned throughout, accompanied by a tri-zone HVAC system. Cargo space ranges from 566 litres to 2,293 litres, supplemented by an 85-litre front trunk.
At launch, the 2024 Kia EV9 will feature two powertrain options: a standard 76.1-kWh battery powering a 160-kW (215-hp) rear-wheel drive motor and an optional 99.8-kWh battery available in either a single-motor 201-hp setup that will generate a range of 489 kilometres according to the EPA, or a dual-motor 283-kW (379-hp) all-wheel drive system boasting 516 lb.-ft. of torque. Drive modes span Eco, Normal, Sport, My Mode, with AWD versions adding Snow Mode. The EV9 features an advanced 800V electrical system, allowing ultrafast charging—achieving 10 to 80 percent charge in under 25 minutes with its 236kW DC charging capability. A 10.9kW onboard charger expedites Level 2 charging. Notably, the EV9 combines a high 7.8-inch ground clearance with a towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs. for AWD models.
The EV9 introduces Kia's advanced Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system, offering faster processing and intuitive Quick Controls. The system alleviates range concerns by providing navigation-based charging guidance using estimated arrival times and remaining distance. It comes standard with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a wireless phone charger. Remarkably, the EV9 is Kia's first to support over-the-air vehicle system updates, promising ongoing enhancements. Users can access a plethora of Digital Features and Services via the Kia Connect Store, enabling remote upgrades spanning performance to entertainment. Official Canadian pricing details have not been announced yet. However, the 2024 Kia EV9 will start at just under $55,000 in the US. Pricing is expected to start at under $65,000 in Canada.
